KEY RESPONSIBILITIES<br><br>
The Chief Curator will assist the Director and CEO in the development and
implementation of future programming initiatives. Responsibilities
include developing and implementing policies, procedures and long-term
objectives for the Gallery. As a member of the senior management
team, the Chief Curator will be responsible for establishing priorities
for the Curatorial Department in consultation with the curators, as well
as education initiatives, Collection Management and Library and
Archives. He/she will provide direction on the research,
development, preservation, documentation and display of the collections,
and will ensure that the collections are made known and accessible to
various publics through the Gallery programs<br><br>
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES<br><br>
Exhibition Schedule:<br>
The Chief Curator in consultation with the curatorial staff is
responsible for providing visionary leadership with the Director and CEO
in the development of the exhibition schedule and programming =96
publications, education programming, media programming, and collection
projects in the areas of historical and contemporary arts in all
areas.<br><br>
Exhibitions:<br>
The Chief Curator is responsible for developing his/her own research
projects, exhibitions and publications on an ongoing and regular
basis.<br><br>
Staff Supervision:<br>
In accordance with the AGGV Personnel Policies, the Chief Curator is
responsible for the supervision of staff members including written annual
reviews for all employees in the Programming division as well as
initiating production and programming meetings, budget and revenue
meetings in programming. The Chief Curator is expected to organize
recruitment interviews for the departments as required.<br>
The Chief Curator is also expected to foster a heightened sense of pride
and recognition of accomplishments among staff and volunteers.<br>
It is also expected that the Chief Curator will work with the Director
and CEO to organize and direct a cohesive programming team.<br><br>
Budget:<br>
The Chief Curator is responsible for the development of annual budgets
for Curatorial, Collections and Education departments in consultation
with staff of those departments. He/she will also monitor and
ensure adherence to a balanced budget and targeted revenues on a regular
basis.<br><br>
Grants:<br>
The Chief Curator is responsible for the completion of all grant
applications directly related to the development of programming
activities including requests to the Canada Council for the Arts, BC Arts
Council, Department of Canadian Heritage, CRD and others as
required. The Chief Curator is also responsible for developing the
description of programs and budget for other grant applications and/or
sponsorship requests as necessary.<br><br>
Special skills:<br>
Strong communication, writing and computer skills, financial acuity,
management and supervisory skills. Ability and willingness to work
after hours and on weekends. <br><br>
INTERFACING<br><br>
Public Relations:<br>
Play a leadership and ambassadorial role on behalf of the AGGV in the
region, Canada and internationally. Forge links with other galleries and
museums at the provincial, national and international level.<br><br>

Development, Marketing, Finance and Administration<br>
<br>
QUALIFICATIONS<br><br>
* A graduate university degree (M.A.) including a
comprehensive knowledge of art and cultural history, and a minimum of 10
years experience in curatorial work and management. <br>
* Museum experience in the areas of curatorial,
exhibition planning and implementation, conservation and research as well
as proven administrative, managerial financial and organizational
skills. <br>
* A museum professional with solid achievements and a
good reputation in the milieu.<br>
* Superior communication and negotiation skills, art
historical research abilities and a publication record in an area of
expertise. <br><br>
