Hi Lorna,
I love my EPSON V700. It might seem a bit pricy at $700, but it sure =
does a job, especially for mass scanning of slides and negatives. It =
has special frames to hold multiple units, 12 slides at once, for =
instance, and many film formats; and the scanning process is wonderfully =
easy to learn. The automatic format recognition software makes mass =
scanning a joy. Also, because the software is so flexible and =
friendly, I now use it for all scanning. It is one machine I look =
really forward to turning on.
Currently, I am cranking my way through digitizing many good old =
fashioned years of slides for archival and sharing purposes, and am very =
happy with the results (once I learned not to create files larger than =
my computer could open!). This is a heavy duty machine, well designed =
for a wide range of scanning projects.

Definitely Epson. My 1670 continues to do good work at four years of =
age. Sad that that is acceptable in these digital days but in all =
events, Epson is consistently the most reliable technology in scanning. =
