*Delta** Museum** and Archives Unveils New Exhibit:*

*River** of Memories**: The Story of Annieville, Sunbury and River Road*

* *

*/Delta, BC/** *-- Knowing about our past is worthwhile for many
reasons. Being mindful of how quickly our past slips away and out of
collective memory, the Delta Museum and Archives will unveil their
newest exhibit */"River of Memories: The Story of Annieville, Sunbury
and River Road" /*on Saturday, April 12 at the North Delta Recreation
Centre.

Through a series of rare photographs, maps and stunning air photo
mosaics, the exhibit documents the history and visual changes that have
occurred in this area since 1860, when the first immigrants from Europe,
Asia and America began to settle in these communities. This exhibit
will provide visitors with an overview of the area's history from 1860
to present, including River Road's journey from wagon road to motor
transport and railroad, and a look at one aspect of the social history
through the schools that brought the communities together.

Construction of roadways has come a long way since the transportation
revolution of the early 1900s. A highlight of the exhibit is a
carefully crafted and detailed landscape model, built by volunteer Ken
Atkey. Based on original research, the model illustrates how the
construction of a 5 ½ mile section of River Road was achieved in May 1902.

From the beginning, River Road has been an important transportation
route that has challenged the ingenuity and resolve of local and
regional interests. "What fascinated me about the building of River
Road were the complex local and regional interests involved, and how
quickly transportation technology and priorities changed between 1900
and 1913," says Kathy Bossort, Archivist for the Delta Museum and Archives.

The histories of the communities along River Road are scattered in
family scrapbooks, in the records of the Municipality of Delta and
organizations which have served the communities, and in the holdings of
the Delta Museum and Archives. The objective of the Archives' research
and this exhibit is to bring these streams together and create a river
of memories.

Staff from the Delta Museum and Archives will be on hand April 12
(1:00pm to 3:00pm) with some fun hands-on activities and further
information about the Delta Museum and Archives. The */"River of
Memories"/* exhibit will be on display at the North Delta Recreation
Centre located at 11415 -- 84 Avenue in North Delta from April 12 to
June 27, 2008.
