WAG 2008 Winners

Once again, The Wearable Art Gala put the “fun” back in fundraising,
presenting art and performance ranging from the wild to the ridiculous –
plus a little naughtiness on the side. The Alternator Gallery
congratulates all the participants in this year’s Wearable Art Gala. The
quality and number of entries was phenomenal. And the winning artists
from the Alternator’s Wearable Art Gala 2008 are:

Best Use of Music
Jolyne Lauriault, Winfield, for “The Bishop”

Most Naughty
Curtis Oland, Lake Country, for “Poof”

Best Performance
Astrid Jack from Kelowna and Jessica Zarin Ross for “Wearing your
Environment”

Most Poetic
Christina Van, Kelowna, for “Completing Incompletion”

Most Innovative Materials
Anh Le, Merville, BC, for “Tasting Sake on Orchid Pillow” Wow

Peoples’ Choice
Anh Le for “Tasting Sake on Orchid Pillow.”

Judges for the event were Portia Priegert, Arthur Schwimmer, Lorie
Mairs, Dave Markin, Toddy Rockwell, and Arlette Weyger.

Over 250 guests experienced this edgy alternative to a boring evening at
home, with over 160 audience members voting for the Peoples’ Choice
award. Artists (in and partly out of costume) and guests mingled during
the after party in the Atrium of the Rotary Centre for the Arts.

The WAG raised approximately $8000.00 for the Alternator, which will be
used for exhibitions, artists’ residencies, and special events such as
the Philosophers Café, performances and workshops.

The Alternator thanks George Cwiklewski for providing $1000 for artists’
awards. We also thank our many sponsors and donors. And thank you
especially to all the artists, volunteers and a wonderful audience for
making the WAG a whole lot of weird fun.

The Alternator Gallery is a member run non-profit organization and
