The Cultural Resource Management Program at the University of Victoria is p=
leased to offer the following workshop for professionals and volunteers wor=
king in heritage sites and cultural centres.
This workshop is offered in partnership with the British Columbia Heritage =
Branch, Ministry of Tourism, Sport, and the Arts as part of the Historic Si=
tes Stewardship Program. This workshop is being held in conjunction with t=
he Heritage BC annual conference.
Fundraising Strategies for Heritage Organizations
Course code: CMCR243 2008K CO1
Increase your organization's readiness and capacity to fundraise through th=
is one-day interactive workshop. This session builds your understanding of =
the role of fundraising within organizations, current types of fundraising =
activities and familiarizes you with a range of tools available to assist y=
our organization in fundraising. Strategies for marketing and communication=
s as well as engaging constituents in the mission of the organization are a=
lso explored. Through this workshop, you will also consider human and finan=
cial resources in addition to board development as key elements in developi=
ng realistic fundraising strategies. Current trends in philanthropy will be=
discussed in relation to the field of heritage conservation in British Col=
umbia.
This session is designed for staff and board members of heritage organizati=
ons, community heritage foundations, historical societies, local government=
agencies as well as managers of cultural facilities and historic sites.
The objectives of this workshop are to:
* recognize the importance of fundraising within the strategic vision an=
d management of heritage organizations
* provide tools and strategies for future fundraising activities
* outline the components of a fundraising plan
* link fundraising with marketing and communications
* engage staff and board members of heritage organizations in the planni=
ng of both short and long term fundraising activities
