Hi Rosaleen,
I coordinate the University of Victoria's Co-op program and we have placed =
literally hundreds of Cultural Resource, History, and Anthropology Co-op st=
udents in museums, heritage sites and galleries over the past twenty years-=
from to Hong Kong to Vimy Ridge and just about everywhere in between.
Many of them have been employed in small BC museums using YCW funding; the =
process is relatively painless once your funding request has been approved.=
As far as accommodation is concerned, it's always very helpful if you can =
state you will "prospect" for student housing in the job description. Overa=
ll students are very adaptable, willing to live in small, but well-lit spac=
es, share apartments, or (best of all) house sit for local residents who ma=
y be travelling for the summer.

) and we'll send you student resumes on a closing date you choose. If you-o=

Subject: [Bcma-l] internships
I'm looking into the idea of employing an intern to undertake an
inventory of our collections and upload the data onto our new database.
I'd be interested to hear from similar small museums that have used
interns and gone through the process of hiring. I am applying to YCW for
funding but they have a small allocation for internships.
It would necessitate relocating to our small northern town and finding
accommodation for the work period. YCW can help with transport costs but
not accommodation. Have you found that interns are willing to take on
this extra expense in order to gain work experience?
Any advice or info greatly appreciated.
