A Love Affair with the Jesse Love Farmhouse
The 1893 Jesse Love Farmhouse, Burnaby's oldest surviving house, was
moved to Burnaby Village Museum in 1988 and restored. Assistant
Programmer Lisa Langlet was instrumental in the documenting and
furnishing of the house. She presents a vivid account of the experience,
including wallpaper treasures reproduced from the bits that surfaced in
the conservation work. Code 162761

Super Sleuth Series
Genealogical Workshop I:
Researching Your Female Ancestors
March 8, 1-3pm, $12.60 (tax included)
In conjunction with International Women's Day, learn how to research
your female ancestors. Women tend to be eclipsed in the labyrinth of
genealogical data, but Diane Rogers of the BC Genealogical Society
teaches you how to bring them back to life.
The Women of Ocean View Cemetery
March 8, 10am-noon, $10.50 (tax included)
Opened in 1919, this cemetery includes the 1928 Abbey Mausoleum and the
1936 Garden Chapel, a replica of a small Norman church. Notables include
Canadian icon Klondike Kate, philanthropist Iby Koerner, Olympic
medalist diver Irene Margaret MacDonald, Canadian Legion honorary member
Isabelle de la Giroday, and WWII Flt.-Lt. Jessie Hanyin Cheng, the only
woman in the Chinese Air Force. Visit them all and many more!
Spring Break Fun
The Village Scavenger Hunt
Dates: March 17-24, 2007
Times: noon-4:00pm, daily
Cost: $5.25 per person, incl carousel rides
Come take the challenge! The Village Scavenger Hunt takes you throughout
the village looking high and low. Be sure to watch the blacksmith
working, catch a movie in the theatre and tour the Interurban Tram
display while on your search for answers. And, of course, a ride on the
carousel is a must. The Ice Cream Parlour will be open with light menu
options available.
Vintage Escapes - Spring Break Camp
Dates: March 17-21
Times: 9:00am-3:00pm
Cost: $135.00, pre-registration required, Ages: 8+
In a 1920s setting, children play heritage games and sports, bake at the
farmhouse, take in activities at the trams, try their hand at
blacksmithing, go on nature walks and enjoy daily carousel rides. They
will also visit the site of the old Oakalla Prison
