Press Release -- February 2008, MRAG
On Exhibit at the MRAG between March 8, 2008 and April 12, 2008, are a
number of paintings made by Pitt Meadows painter Thomas Cetnarowski. The
theme, of light, colour and texture in the natural landscape as
perceived through a personal technical and emotional filter is explored
in a series of plein-air paintings of the Polder and dike landscapes of
our rural neighborhood. Meet the artist at the Opening Reception; hear
his artist talk on March 8, 2008, between 2 and 4 p.m.
Mr. Cetnarowski makes a compelling case, by the beauty he perceives in
the character of our Polder and celebrates in his paintings, for the
preservation of the rich ecosystem of our Polder. In his paintings, the
magical and persistent gorgeousness of this natural landscape in all
seasons and light conditions is revealed as occasion of joy for any of
us fortunate to have ready access on a daily basis. He paints our
regional landscape, with its peculiarities of light and characteristic
vegetation, in a manner that makes us draw a breath in delight of
recognition for having an artist share the way we, ourselves, can
sometimes perceive our world.
Art can engage the senses, delight the imagination, provide occasion for
sharing what we values with each other. It can express wonder and
thankfulness about this place we inhabit and can so easily take for
granted. Mr. Cetnarowski's paintings fulfill all these purposes. Come
and see for yourself. For further information, please contact the Maple
Ridge Art Gallery.
