Our Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Department is looking for an
auxiliary Assistant Curator. Duties involve assisting the Burnaby Art
Gallery’s curator in acquiring and identifying art works, engaging in a
variety of research activities, administering the gallery’s accession
and catalogue procedures, overseeing and participating in the handling,
storage and maintenance of art works and preparation of exhibits. Other
duties include assisting in preparing budget estimates and in the
development of grant applications, making recommendations regarding
policies and procedures related to collections management and the
direction of the work of volunteers. The assistant curator exercises
independent judgment and action within established guidelines and
performs related work as required.

Qualifications include: University graduation in a discipline related to
museum work, preferably supplemented by courses related to collections
management, plus sound related experience. Along with considerable
knowledge of modern museum methods and techniques and computerized
record-keeping methods, attributes include working knowledge of the
methods and techniques of historical and scientific research and
conservation principles. A valid BC Driver’s Licence is required.

The starting wage is $28.42 per hour plus 12% in lieu of benefits.
