This is community service work of moderate complexity involving public
contact, assisting staff by planning, organizing, promoting,
implementing and leading services related to collections documentation
on exhibit and in storage.
In this position, you will work under the direction of the
Curator-Archivist-Heritage Collections and assist in processing archival
and museum collections using a Minisis database. You will be responsible
for registering incoming collections, marking, cataloging artifacts,
arranging and describing archival materials, entering data, maintaining
and updating the electronic database and scanning or digitizing
materials; you will assist to maintain collections in storage to ensure
accurate locations for retrieval and you will support the preventative
conservation program to preserve collections both in storage and on
display; you will assist to keep and file records, prepare statistics
and support the implementation of facility emergency and safety
procedures; you will provide suggestions for the annual work priorities
for collections management, help to support junior staff and seasonal
employees or volunteers and perform other work related duties as
required. To be successful in this position you must possess excellent
written and oral communication skills, neat and legible hand writing is
required, effective organizational skills with attention to detail and
time management and have sound knowledge of operation of computer
terminal and software applications related to the work performed. You
have the ability to take direction and can work independently or as part
of a team.
Completion of Grade 12 education supplemented by some post secondary
education from a recognized institution, supplemented by two years
related experience including supervision in cultural work or area of
specialty or an equivalent acceptable combination of training and
experience. In addition the incumbent must hold a valid BC driver's
license with a safe driving history, emergency First Aid Certificate and
CPR Certificate.
