We have the following exhibit packed in sturdy travel cases and ready for display:
Nordic Spirit: First Icelandic settlements in B.C. & Point Roberts. Over 200 beautifully restored and enlarged historical photographs together with explanatory text movingly illustrate the early settlements of B.C.’s Icelanders. The exhibition shows ordinary pioneer activities of fishing, logging, building, and socializing in Osland, Hunter Island, Victoria, and Point Roberts. A few portraits document the early lives of some notable individuals such as Byron “Boss” Johnson, Canada’s first non-Canadian Premier of B.C. (1947), Geiri Sigurgeirsson whose fishing boat design set the standard in the trolling fleet industry on the West Coast, and a fellow named Erikson, personal BC fishing guide to Bing Crosby.
This gallery exhibition is set in one hundred 13 by 19 inch frames. Partial displays may be requested. The exhibit was prepared in 2007 by the Scandinavian Cultural Society, the Icelandic Archives of B.C. and the Icelandic Canadian Club of B.C assisted by Robert Asgeirsson, curator, Icelandic Archives of B.C.
