*Kelowna Museums Offer Free Guided Walking Tours*
February 18^th to February 23^rd
1:00PM -- 2:00PM
Your Kelowna Museums are pleased to offer free guided walking tours in
conjunction with Heritage Week 2008. The theme of this year's Heritage
Week is "Taking Care of Business: The Heritage of Trade and Commerce".
This interactive heritage tour will give participants a glimpse of
Kelowna's early days of trade with historic maps and images, hands-on
artefacts, and visits to the four Kelowna Museums. Tours run daily
starting Monday February 18^th until Saturday February 23^rd . Join us
for this compelling walk through history - tours begin at the Okanagan
Heritage Museum front desk each day at 1:00PM and finish at 2:00PM at
the BC Wine Museum and VQA Wine Shop in the historic Laurel
Packinghouse. The Okanagan Heritage Museum is located at 470 Queensway
Avenue, corner of Ellis and Queensway in the Cultural District. Call
763-2417 for more information.
The tour begins with a look at this area's early days of trade and
commerce, from the Fur Brigade Trail and John McDougall's trading post,
to an early pioneer grocery store. The tour will stop at the Okanagan
Military Museum to examine the impact the Great Wars had on local trade
before heading down Ellis Street, the industrial area of early Kelowna
where some of the town's original commercial buildings still stand. A
visit to the Laurel Packinghouse to hear the stories of the Okanagan
fruit and wine industries will conclude the tour. The guided walking
tour will take one hour, please dress accordingly.

The Kelowna Museums Society is a non-profit, charitable organization
dedicated to a greater awareness of the agricultural, wine-producing,
