Temporary Employment Opportunity – Bilingual Interpreter
Gulf of Georgia Cannery National Historic Site
One of BC's few historically intact canneries, the Gulf of Georgia Cannery
commemorates the history of Canada's West Coast fishing industry from the
1870's to the present. The cannery offers a variety of interpretive
programs for school groups, tourists and the general public. We are
currently seeking an outgoing individual to join our team of interpreters.
Reporting to the Head Interpreter, responsibilities include:
· Deliver school and public programs in French and English
· Assist with special events
· Greet visitor to the site, collect admissions and assist with gift
shop sales from time to time
· Conduct minor maintenance as required e.g. cleaning display cases
Qualifications:
· Fluent in French and English
· Excellent interpersonal skills; previous public speaking experience
is an asset
· Ability to work independently, multi-task and problem solve
· Ability to work in a cold, damp environment
· A criminal record check is required
This is a temporary, contract position from August 25 – October 6, 2008
with the potential for additional employment in the spring. The hours are
flexible and will depend on the availability of the successful candidate.
Some evening and weekend work may be required.
The salary is $12 per hour, plus 4% in lieu of vacation pay.
