Employment Opportunity - Collections Manager

Gulf of Georgia Cannery National Historic Site

One of BC's few historically intact canneries, the Gulf of Georgia Cannery
commemorates the history of Canada's West Coast fishing industry from the
1870's to the present.  Home to a unique collection of over 10,000
artifacts as well as an archive and library, the Cannery is seeking a
Collections Manager to ensure the long-term care and conservation of its
collections.

Working in collaboration with the Collections Committee and Parks Canada
and reporting to the Executive Director, responsibilities include:
·     Develop and implement collections and archives policies and
procedures
·     Manage and maintain collections and archives records and database
·     Approve and track loans
·     Process accessions and deaccessions
·     Oversee standard conservation of collections and maintenance of
permanent exhibits
·     Fill research requests and aid outside researchers
·     Assist with the research, design, production and installation of
temporary exhibits
·     Assist with collection and exhibit related grant applications
·     Supervise curatorial volunteers and part-time and/or seasonal
curatorial staff

Qualifications:
·     Post-secondary degree in a related field
·     A minimum of two years relevant experience in a museum, archives or
historic site
·     Knowledge of standard collections management practices
·     Ability to collaborate effectively with staff, volunteers, board and
committee members and experts from the community
·     Ability to work independently, multi-task and problem solve
·     Ability to lift materials of reasonable weight and to work in a cold,
damp environment from time to time
·     Knowledge of InMagic database an asset
·     A criminal record check is required

This is a six-month contract position with the potential for permanent
employment with a comprehensive benefits package at the end of the
contract.  The salary is $3250 per month, plus 4% in lieu of vacation pay.
