FRASER RIVER DISCOVERY CENTRE JOB POSTING
POSITION: Education Program Assistant
Temporary full-time, 37.5 hours per week, Tuesday to Saturday, 8:30 to 4:30.
This position would be a six month contract position starting July 22, 2008
and ending January 2009.
Salary: $14.00 per hour plus 4% in lieu of benefits
The Fraser River Discovery Centre (FRDC) is looking for a qualified
candidate to assist with the delivery of quality educational programming on
the magnificent Fraser River. The Fraser River Discovery Centre Society is
a non-profit society that oversees a hands on interpretive centre with the
mandate of "Connecting communities in discovery and celebration of the
living, working Fraser River and to be recognized as the Centre of
excellence for stimulating passion, education and enlightenment about the
Fraser River".
This position reports to the Education Program Coordinator.
This position is responsible for:
* Delivery and evaluation of the educational content of current
public and school programs.
* Assisting in research and development of existing River School on
the Road outreach programs and River School In Centre programs:
* Updating and evaluating a volunteer/coordinator manual for program
delivery
* Creating/designing props and activities for program and pre visit
activities
* Research and adapting programs to provincial curriculum
* Assisting with the implementation of marketing plans and
promotional materials
* Booking school and community group programs and carry out the
associated administration
* Assisting with the planning and delivery of special events
* Assisting with the organization of feature presentations
* Assisting with Education volunteer program:
* Developing a volunteer marketing plan
* Liaise with internal and external volunteer groups
* Assisting with training of volunteer team
* Assisting with research for prospective funding sources
* Promoting, creating, and delivering public programs including
walking tours
* Other related duties as required
QUALIFICATIONS
To be screened for an interview, you must clearly state in your cover letter
how you meet each of the following criteria:
* Degree or diploma in environmental education, biology, natural
sciences, or related field of studies, or an acceptable combination of
education, training and experience
* Experience working with school aged children and the general public
* Public Speaking skills and experience working in group settings
* Experience working both independently and as an effective member of
a team
* Strong communication skills
* Working knowledge of freshwater ecosystems and river landscapes
* Volunteer supervision or experience an asset
* Proficient with various software programs, including Office 2003,
MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, and other design applications
* Possess a valid BC drivers license
* Willing to complete a Criminal Record Clearance
