*Local Author to Speak at Okanagan Heritage Museum*
*-Barry Sanford, author of /McCulloch's Wonder/ and /Steel Rails and
Iron Men/*
In conjunction with the grand re-opening of the Myra Canyon trestles
this summer, the Okanagan Heritage Museum is hosting a local author and
Kettle Valley Railway historian in a lecture that is open to the public.
Barry Sanford, author of /McCulloch's Wonder/ and /Steel Rails and Iron
Men/, will be at the museum on Thursday, July 17 at 7:00 p.m. to speak
about his experience with the Kettle Valley Railway.
The Kettle Valley Railway earned its nickname "McCulloch's Wonder" from
the railway's chief engineer, Andrew McCulloch, who built the railway
across the backbone of three mountain ranges and what are considered
some of the most rugged river canyons on the face of the earth. Sanford
has written widely on railway and technical subjects, and /McCulloch's
Wonder/ is one of the best-selling books dealing with the history of
Canadian railway. He holds a degree in Civil Engineering from the
University of British Columbia and has spent his career in the
management of urban and rural passenger transportation, as well as
building wide recognition as an authority on railroading in the British
Columbia interior.
The Okanagan Heritage Museum is pleased to host Sanford and to invite
the public to this unique opportunity to meet and speak with a renowned
local author and historian.
Admission to the public lecture is by donation. The Okanagan Heritage
Museum is located at 470 Queensway Avenue (corner of Ellis and
Queensway). For more information please call (250) 763-2417.
To further celebrate the re-opening of the trestles, the Kelowna Museums
are offering half-day guided tours of the UBC Okanagan archaeological
site at Myra Canyon trestle #8 where UBCO students are working to
uncover evidence of the KVR construction era. There are two
opportunities to participate in this tour- July 26 and August 9. Both
tours start at 9:30 a.m. and end at noon. Cost is only $15. Call (250)
868-4836 for more information and to book your spot on a tour.
The Okanagan Heritage Museum is a facility of the Kelowna Museums
Society, a non-profit, charitable organization dedicated to a greater
awareness of the agricultural, wine-producing, military, and cultural
heritages of the Okanagan. For more information please visit
