Then find papers in BC (or PEI to be faithful to Anne). Once one has
selected a paper, one can search by key words (e.g. lettuce or
groceries). Once you find an add you can drag to highlight it, cut and
paste into a Word document. Remember to record the source.=20
=20
For school activities, try contacting Burnaby Village Museum. They have
a 1923 school and in their reference library is a Canadian manual for
school teachers c. 1890 as I recall.=20
=20
Of course in August no kid in his right mind would go near a school!

Hi, everyone,
=20
The recent questions about slate pencils has reminded me to send out
this general query, to all of you who have historic schoolhouses and
programs in them:
=20
Can you offer any advice and suggestions for a short (say 15-30 minute)
program that can be run for a group of mixed ages? We are holding an
Anne of Green Gables event in August, which will include a day in the
life of Anne - the schoolhouse scene, the Sunday school picnic, more
mundane chores like laundry. We have room in our little schoolhouse for
about 15 students, and I'm trying to put together a lesson that can be
taught shortly before our Anne cracks her slate over Gilbert's head.
=20
Also, does anyone know where I can track down general store prices from
about 1880 - 1885? (Just how much did Matthew pay for those twenty
pounds of brown sugar, for example?) Our newspapers only go back as far
as 1908.
=20
Thanks!
=20
Tammy
=20
(And, if you're in the area, feel free to join us - August 14-16!)
