Subject: Van Dop Gallery presents Kinichi Shigeno
Newsletter July 2008
SPOTLIGHT: Kinichi Shigeno, ceramicist
We are proud to welcome new work by award-winning ceramicist
Kinichi Shigeno. Shigeno's richly detailed work emerges from his
Japanese heritage and impressions of life on Canada's west coast
. He trained and apprenticed in Japan before immigrating to
Canada in 1981 as a ceramic designer. His strength lies in the
way he merges functionality with his evolving exploration of
form and surface decoration. He has participated in over 55
exhibitions in 35 years including the prestigious International
Ceramic Art Exhibition in Florence, Italy, and is the 2008
winner of the BC Achievement Award for Applied Art & Design.
HAPPENINGS
Current Exhibition: Art of the Garden
The Art of the Garden opened on June 14th and was a wonderful
success. We welcomed many new faces to the Gallery and the
weather smiled on us the entire day. The Art of the Garden
exhibition continues until September 21, 2008. There are still
plenty of Joanna Lovett's jewelry,Jack Willoughby's garden
sculptures, and paintings by Veronica Foster and Carole Arnston.
