Call For Proposals
2009/2010 Call for Guest Curators: Project Proposals Wanted
=20
The Richmond Art Gallery is seeking proposals for guest-curated
exhibitions in the 2009-2010
exhibition year, for six weeks in duration. Emerging or mid-career
independent curators are invited to present recent or experimental works
not previously shown in Richmond.
=20
Exhibitions should be driven by the individual vision of the proposing
curator. There are no restrictions on an exhibition theme, but the
exhibitions should be informed by a conceptual or artistic issue of the
curator's choice and consider the Richmond Art Gallery's curatorial
mandate. The curatorial mandate of the Gallery is to mount exhibitions
of local, Canadian and international stature of interest to our
audiences and of importance to the contemporary art community. An
important part of the Gallery's curatorial practice is to be aware of
work being done in Richmond and the region, and to represent it to those
constituents. The Gallery offers an innovative and diverse program of
exhibitions, workshops, lectures, as well as outreach programs which
focus on presenting contemporary art and art issues to a broad audience.
Please view our website for more information on the Gallery and its
exhibition history.
=20
The number of artists and works will be guided by both the curator's
vision and the amount of exhibition space available (see below in
Submission Criteria). Proposals should include artists and works that
are the most representative of the curator's ideas as well as include
ideas about related projects, special events, and/or collaboration with
other galleries or community spaces. =20
