Community groups may be interested in a new funding program recently
announced by the federal Department of Canadian Heritage. The program,
/Building Communities through Arts and Heritage/(BCAH), will provide
support to local arts and heritage festivals that feature local artists
and artisans or local heritage, as well as major historical
anniversaries of local importance.
*_Who can apply_*
Local incorporated non-profit organizations
OR
Organizations/groups without legal incorporation
OR
Band Councils, Tribal Councils, and other Aboriginal (First Nation,
Inuit, and Metis) governments and equivalent organizations
*Eligibility requirement: All Applicants must provide written
confirmation of support (financial or in-kind) from their municipal
government or equivalent authority (closest level of local government)
and must include the value of that support in the project budget.

*_Application Deadlines_*
The application deadlines for _Local Arts and Heritage Festivals_ are:
* Next deadline:* SEPTEMBER 1, 2008 for events presented between
January 1^st 2009 and August 31^st 2009.
* Effective January 1, 2009*, the following deadline dates will
remain the same, in future years:
o APRIL 1 for events presented between September 1^st (same year)
and March 31^st (following year); and
o SEPTEMBER 1 for events presented between April 1^st and August
31^st (following year).
For _Community Historical Anniversaries Programming_:
* Next deadline:* SEPTEMBER 1, 2008 for events presented between
January1^st 2009 and December 31^st 2009.

Funding in support of recurring festivals, events and activities that
engage Canadians in their communities through the public presentation of
local artists and/or of local heritage.
Eligibility Criteria
1. Activity or activities lasting more than 1 day and a maximum of 28
days
2. Recurring event presented at least once in the two years preceding
the application
3. Present work of local artists, artisans, and/or aspects of local
historical heritage
4. Open to general public
5. Actively involve members of the local community
*Component II: Community Historical Anniversaries Programming*
Funding in support of nonrecurring events and activities that engage
Canadians in their communities through the commemoration of major
anniversaries of significant local events and /or persons.
Eligibility Criteria
1. Activity or activities lasting a minimum of one day and a maximum
of 1 year
2. Nonrecurring/one-time event
3. Present program of local events or activities commemorating
100^th or greater anniversaries, (multiples of 25 years only) of
locally significant historical event or person
4. Present work of local artists, artisans, and/or aspects of local
historical heritage
5. Open to the general public
6. Actively Involve members of the local community

les conseils de bandes, les conseils tribaux et autres gouvernements
autochtones et organisations équivalentes.
*Quels sont les principaux critères d'admissibilité?*
*Les demandeurs doivent fournir la preuve d'un appui local pour le
projet proposé en présentant une confirmation écrite de l'appui
financier ou en biens et services de la municipalité ou d'une instance
équivalente (c'est-à-dire le pallier gouvernemental le plus près) et

local; ou des anniversaires importants qui commémorent un événement
