career opportunity for a Museum Manager.  This is a senior position 
providing leadership in the public operation and administration of the 
26,000 square foot Surrey Museum that opened in late 2005. 
 
MUSEUM MANAGER
 
As Museum Manager you provide leadership, oversee planning and 
implementation of all programs and services, and ensure the maintenance, 
safety and security of the facility.  You are responsible for exhibits 
and public services, supporting the community advisory board and working 
with the local and professional community to enhance the scope and 
delivery of a variety of services.  You will supervise and direct a team 
of staff and volunteers and be accountable for the annual operating 
budget and daily administrative functions. This position requires the 
ability to work flexible hours.
 
The successful candidate will demonstrate experience in the philosophy 
and practice of community development and have strong interpersonal 
skills and leadership abilities. Technical knowledge of museum practices 
and considerable experience in a related field are required. You will 
bring a strong understanding of cultural facility and heritage program 
operations including financial management, audit and control functions 
and you will actively demonstrate your ability to successfully write 
grants and manage projects.
 
Applicants must have a university or college degree in a related 
discipline. Your work experience includes hands on involvement in 
cultural programs with ascending levels of responsibility over a 5-7 
year period. You bring experience in recruitment, supervision, 
scheduling, performance management and development of inter-disciplinary 
staff teams and cultural facility operation and management.  
Considerable experience working with volunteers and sustaining active 
community partnerships is required.  An equivalent combination of 
education and experience may be considered.
