Fridays, July 11^th – September 5^th 2008

Vancouver, BC (June 5^th , 2008) - Enchant your evenings with the 
critically acclaimed concert series at the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical 
Chinese Garden every Friday night starting July 11^th to September 5^th 
2008. In its 15^th season, the Enchanted Evenings series introduces 
exciting new groups to the series along with your favorite performers. 
This year’s repertoire includes classical, world, Asian, gypsy jazz, 
African and fusion music. All shows start at 7:30pm. Doors open at 
7:00pm. Awaken your senses with vibrant sounds in a beautiful setting. 
Tickets are $18 for non-members and $15 for Garden Society members. Also 
available is a season pass for $125 which allows you to watch all nine 
performances. Book your Friday nights to celebrate this unique blend of

Concert Schedule

July 11 Hot Club of Mars – This dynamic group plays and sings wonderful 
old hot swing tunes with style, power and grace. Come be romanced by 
Gypsy Jazz, the contemporary name for the genre of music now popular 
worldwide that was created by Django Reinhardt and his Quintette du Hot 
Club de France in the 30s and 40s.

July 18 Tzimmes – Emphasizing the tremendous diversity within Jewish 
music, this group sings in four languages – Yiddish, Hebrew, Ladino and 
English. Sure to impress, their style ranges from Middle Eastern to Folk 
and Worldbeat.

July 25 Vancouver Piano Ensemble – An evening of timeless masterpieces 
played on two grand pianos with eight hands that will leave audiences 
enthralled by the rare and unique piano repertoires of classic composers.

Aug 1 Lehera – As vocals in English and Classical Indian styles 
intertwine with Hindustani slide guitar, violin, bamboo flutes and vocal 
harmonics, Lehera brings together their roots in Indian classical music 
and Western musical forms to create a style both energetic and 
contemplative.

Aug 8 Amy & Amir – Join this duo as they captivate audiences with a new 
interpretation of an ancient art that weaves the unique sound of 
traditional Persian song with Celtic harp.


Aug 15 Khac Chi & Friends – A musical group showcasing rare and unique 
musical instruments and melodies from the mountain peoples of Vietnam. 
They will be joined by surprise guest performers.

Aug 22 Zimba Moto – Groove to this Afro-fusion band as they take you on 
a musical journey ranging from traditional Shona music to contemporary 
African and funk rhythms!

Aug 29 Dharmakasa – An alchemy of global music that fuses ancient 
instruments and musical traditions from around the world with unique, 
modern instrumental inventions. Alcvin Ramos, a shakuhachi Zen flute 
master, Andrew Kim, a multi-instrumentalist with a talent for Indian 
strings, and friends perform this profound musical experience bound to 
awaken your soul.

Sept 5 Silk Road & Friends – Qiu Xia He and Andre Thibault create a 
dramatic mix of cultures and talents as they present a fascinating 
performance of Chinese and African music and dance, incorporating 
everything from Gumboot to the Central Asian music and dance of Xinjiang 
to the memorable new sounds of “Celtic Chinese” music. Be sure not to 
miss this spectacular season finale as we celebrate 15 years of 
enchantment!
