The Richmond Art Gallery (RAG) is a public gallery operated in a
partnership between the City of Richmond and the Richmond Art Gallery
Association (RAGA). The vision of the RAG is "to be one of the most
important public galleries in Canada and to increasingly enlarge our
audiences and their understanding and enjoyment of contemporary art".
We are looking for a dynamic individual to join the team as the Director
of the RAG. Reporting to the Manager, Cultural Services and working
closely with RAGA, the Director works collaboratively with fellow staff
and the RAGA Board to set the direction and overall vision for RAG and
set goals to attain this vision.
*DUTIES:*
As the Director of the Richmond Art Gallery you will be responsible for
directing the activities and operation of the RAG including:
* Supervising staff (both City and RAGA staff) and volunteers;
* Strategic and business planning and implementation of objectives set;
* Communicating and networking with the public, the arts community,
the business community and all levels of government;
* Preparing and managing budgets -- City & Association;
* Supervising and conducting fundraising activities including grant
submissions;
* Coordinating and participating in public relations and promotional
activities regionally and nationally;
* Supervising community outreach activities and programs;
* Managing the permanent collection; and
* Representing RAG in City initiatives.
The incumbent works closely with the staff and the Exhibition Committee
in exhibition planning and management and the production of
publications. The Director is the City liaison to the RAGA Board of
Directors and works with the Board on board development and governance.
*QUALIFICATIONS:*
Master's Degree in Arts Management or Business Administration
supplemented with coursework in Fine Arts, accompanied by a minimum five
years' related professional experience in similar positions OR an
equivalent combination of training and experience. The incumbent will be
an outstanding communicator and skilled manager with the demonstrated
ability to work collegially and collaboratively with a broad range of
staff. Experience in strategic and long range planning, forecasting and
financial management, fundraising, and working with non-profit boards is
required. The successful candidate will possess strong administrative
and management skills; be an outstanding communicator and skilled
manager with a demonstrated ability to work collegially and
collaboratively with a broad range of staff. Arts programming and/or
curatorial experience is an asset as is experience in a municipal
environment.
*This full-time position is based on a 35 hour work week and as part of
our work/life balance initiative, this position works a compressed work
week (nine day fortnight).
