Just over one hundred years after the fascinating events that shook =
Canada's westernmost province took place, the full story has finally =
been told. The book is "Interred with Their Bones: Bill Miner in Canada =
1903 to 1907." The author is Peter Grauer, a recognized expert on the =
years Miner spent in Canada who was chosen the Winner of the BC =
Historical Federation Award for Historical Writing in May of 2007.
=20
Mr. Grauer has been invited to speak at the Annual General Meeting of =
the Summerland Museum & Heritage Society. The meeting will be held in =
the lower level of the Summerland Library, 9525 Wharton Street on =
Wednesday, March 26 beginning at 7:00 p.m. (Mr. Grauer's presentation =
will begin at 7:30 p.m.)
"Born and raised in Revelstoke, as a young adult Mr. Grauer =
moved to Kamloops where his mother's family had settled in the 1880s. It =
was here that he first began his fascination with the early history of =
BC. Drawing from restricted Provincial Police files, previously =
unpublished archival documents and his own extensive collection of =
primary and secondary history sources, he has created a fascinating and =
detailed glimpse into a time now long past."=20
In the book "Interred with Their Bones," many of the things =
relating to Bill Miner in Canada are discussed including numerous people =
and places that entered into his story. One such person is Mary Spencer =
who photographed the arrest and trail of Miner and gained much notoriety =
as a result. At that point in time Mary lived and worked in Kamloops but =
not long after relocated to Summerland and spent the rest of her life =
here. Mr. Grauer's talk, "The Bill Miner Affair and the Mary =
Spencer-Summerland Connection" will focus on the famous BC photographer =
who captured the likeness of the gentleman bandit. Many new facts have =
come to light about Mary Spencer since the book was published and if all =
the pieces come together, the audience will be privy to some photographs =
related to Miss Spencer that have never before been seen by the general =
public.=20
