Overview of Position:=20
TLC is a registered charity and land trust protecting natural areas and =
cultural landmarks in BC. Since 1997, TLC has protected over 120,000 =
acres of sensitive and threatened lands around BC, involving more than =
300 projects that protect important habitat for plants, animals and =
natural communities as well as properties with historical, cultural, =
scientific or compatible recreational value. TLC has grown to include =
over 7,000 members, and is now part of an international network of =
National Trusts with over 7 million members.
This is a new position that plans and manages the operations of TLC's =
cultural heritage properties in the Interior Regions (Okanagan Region, =
Kootenay Region and North Region). At present, this includes two sites: =
Hardy Mountain Doukhobor Village in Grand Forks and the SS Moyie in =
Kaslo, but may expand to cover additional sites in future. The Area =
Manager will also assist in developing TLC's presence in the area and in =
the cultural heritage community, aid in fundraising, marketing, =
volunteer development, and supporting activities and administrative =
responsibilities as required. It is expected that the Area Manager will =
be working on-site most of the operating season (late Spring to early =

Main Duties and Responsibilities:
* Oversees the management of and manages site staff at all cultural =
heritage properties in the interior regions (currently SS Moyie and =
Hardy Mountain Doukhobor Village).=20
* Plans and coordinates restoration activities at TLC cultural heritage =
properties in the interior regions
* Meets with agents, government officials, partners and others to =
develop plans and strategies to restore, enhance and operate these sites
* Develops management plans for properties under TLC's management =
responsibility
* Oversees the management of TLC's collection of artifacts associated =
with sites in this region
* Participates in the development and implementation of policies and =
protocols governing the management, operation, interpretation and care =
of TLC's cultural heritage properties and collections.
* Works with other Regional/Area Managers to develop and implement =
regional programs to build TLC's profile, outreach and partnership =
development. =20
Qualifications:
* At least 5 years combination of education and experience in the =
heritage field (including heritage site operations, interpretation, =
building restoration, and/or collections management)
* Experience supervising staff=20
* Experience working with and managing volunteers
* Budget management experience
* Grant writing, marketing and management experience would be an asset
* Experience with construction, maintenance, restoration or other =
building-related activity would be an asset=20
* Experience working in a not-for-profit environment
* Nature conservation knowledge/experience/interest would be an asset=20
* Professional, highly motivated, system-oriented, excellent =
communication and organisation skills
* Ability to work alone as well as with a team
