Assistant 5 (Heritage Program Specialist).

(Heritage Program Specialist)
The City of Surrey’s Parks, Recreation and Culture Department currently
has a regular part time (30 hrs per week) Community Services Assistant 5
opportunity at the Historic Stewart Farm. This position is responsible
for the research, development, implementation, promotional copy and
evaluation of a variety of programs, including special events, tours,
demonstrations, courses, workshops and programs for schools. The
Heritage Program Specialist works with volunteers, instructors, staff
and the community to deliver programs, plans and supports program
services delivery and monitors the program expenses and revenue sources
for the Historic Stewart Farm. The position reports to the Curator –
Exhibits and Programs.
In this role, some typical duties include: Working with volunteers and
affiliated groups to schedule and present demonstrations, tours &
programs; recommends and implements an annual schedule of educational,
curriculum based programs and tours for students/children; recommends
and implements an annual schedule of public programs, courses, workshops
and demonstrations; recommends and implements seasonal special events;
oversees the facility for public reception, admissions, public
hospitality and tour guiding; assists to recruit, instruct, coach,
support and schedule staff, instructors and volunteers; opens and closes
facilities, monitors safety and security and implements procedures;
prepares copy for promotion of all programs, tours, and special events.
The successful applicant must have considerable understanding and
knowledge of heritage programs, their purpose and objectives. Effective
communication skills both orally and in writing; demonstrated effective
conflict resolution skills; strong interpersonal and public relations
skills, and the ability to establish and maintain effective working
relationships with program participants, volunteers, staff and the public.
You must have completed Grade 12 supplemented by a degree/diploma in a
discipline relevant to the specialty from a recognized post secondary
institution plus 2 years progressively responsible experience in area of
specialty, including supervision, or an equivalent acceptable
combination of training and experience. As well, you will have a current
Emergency First Aid and CPR certificate (or acceptable equivalent), and
possess a valid BC Driver’s License with a safe driving history.
