BC Sports Hall of Fame and Museum
Position Title: Museum Assistant
Position Type: Full time, temporary

Position Overview:
The Museum Assistant fulfills a key role within the BC Sports Hall of Fame and
Museum. The mission of the BC Sports Hall of Fame and Museum is to “Honour
the Past Inspire the Future”. The Museum Assistant helps the museum achieve
this mission. The Museum Assistant performs many tasks within the organization.
Key responsibilities include:
- Front desk reception
- Visitor liaison (ensure visitor have a positive memorable experience through
high level of customer service)
- Tour guide (lead groups of children through the museum ensuring they have a
fun safe experience during their visit)
- Assist with the development of museum programming
- Assist with Special Events
- Assisting with closing duties.
- When necessary, responsible for opening and closing of museum.
The Museum Assistant is joining a staff team of six and will be involved in many
areas of the operations. We are seeking a candidate who is passionate about
sports and sport history. The candidate should enjoy working with children and
have an interest in inspiring and educating the youth of the province. By
joining our staff team the candidate must show the drive and desire to lead our
organization and to take it to its highest potential.
Qualifications:
As a key member of the BC Sports Hall of Fame and Museum, the Museum Assistant
will learn many valuable skills and experience a unique work environment.
Specific skills the job experience will help to develop include:
- Verbal and written communication
- Formal telephone etiquette procedures
- Presentation skills
- Group supervision
- Opening and closing procedures
- Cash register, financial transactions
- Administrative tasks
- Museum maintenance
Candidate Profile:
The successful candidate must:
- Be legally entitled to work in Canada;
- Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or have refugee status in Canada;
- Be between 16 and 30 years of age at the start of employment;
- Be a full-tim e student with intentions of returning to full-time studies in
September.
- Be available to work on weekends.
- Be comfortable in a busy environment and be able to handle many different
tasks.
- Be able to work flexible hours including some evenings and holidays.

The BC Sports Hall of Fame and Museum is offering an exciting opportunity to
become a member of our team dedicated to serving the organization’s mission
of Honouring the Past and Inspiring the Future. Reporting to the Director of
Operations, and working closely with the Curator, the Archival Assistant will
assist and support the care and documentation of BC Sports Hall of Fame’s
archival collection, conduct research, and prepare and maintain permanent and
temporary exhibits. The position involves cataloguing, organizing, and caring
for archival items. The Archival Assistant will also support the BC Sports Hall
of Fame’s education, community programs and customer service over the summer
months. The Archival Assistant will assist with other aspects of operations as
needed.
The Archival Assistant fulfills a key role within the BC Sports Hall of Fame and

Past and Inspire the Future”. The Curatorial Assistant will perform many tasks
within the organization. Key responsibilities include:
- Front desk reception
- Assist in the cataloguing of incoming donations of BC sport archival items
- Assist in the general care and handling of the BC Sports Hall of Fame archives
- Assist with various research projects
- Reorganize Honoured member/team biographical files, update files as needed
- Update oversized photo collection, catalogue and store prints in acid free
sleeves
- Update Honoured Member profiles on the website
- Respond to requests for research and photos from the public using both
telephone and email
- Assisting with opening and closing duties
- When necessary, responsible for opening and closing of museum
The Archival Assistant is joining a staff team of six and will be involved in
many areas of the operations. We are seeking a candidate who is passionate
about sports and sport history. The successful candidate will ideally be a
university or college student with the intentions of continuing with their
studies and possess good verbal, written and computer skills; excellent
interpersonal skills. An interest in sport, history, and museums is required
and previous knowledge of archives, artifact collections, care and handling,
cleaning methods and safety techniques is considered an asset. This position
will require considerable attention to detail, procedures and record keeping.
