Space is still available for the following pre-conference workshop:
Building Bridges - Working with the Tourism Industry
This pre-conference workshop focuses on opportunities and challenges for mu=
seums when working with the tourism industry. Participants will gain an und=
erstanding of the needs, expectations and planning cycles of the tourism in=
dustry and will explore partnership and marketing opportunities for their o=
rganization. The workshop will enable participants to make informed decisio=
ns about the purpose and extent of their organization's involvement with th=
e industry. Hands-on activities will enable participants to develop product=
and packaging ideas for their own organization.
Workshop outline:
t Introductions
t Understanding organizational cultures
t The tourism system and its key players
t Packaging and partnership opportunities
t Applying a marketing approach
t Conclusion and evaluation
Date and Time: Wednesday, November 19 12:30 to 4:30pm
Facilitator: Ursula Pfahler, Poda Communications
Ursula is the owner and operator of Poda Communications, a tourism consulti=
ng and training business. She has facilitated a wide variety of tourism wor=
kshops in BC communities and regularly presents on Heritage/Cultural/Aborig=
inal Tourism issues at tourism conferences and in educational institutions =
such as the Cultural Resource Management Program at UVic and at Royal Roads=
University. Ursula has been involved in BC's tourism industry for over 15 =
years and her area of expertise covers all aspects of group travel includin=
g tour design, administration and marketing. She teaches tourism courses at=
Camosun College and is a Master Trainer for Tourism BC.
