CHILLIWACK - The new look of the Chilliwack Museum is ready for the =
public!
The new permanent exhibit T=92xwel=E1tse: We Must Learn to Live Together =
in A
Good Way leads the way. This reflection on the repatriation of St=F5:lo =
stone
ancestor T=92xwel=E1tse sets the stage for a contemplative presentation =
of
contact, the roll of differing world views and how we have all been =
impacted
by the interaction between new and old cultures. Artefacts, archival =
images,
and film have been brought together to lead this discussion of how we =
might
learn from each other and ultimately to live together in a good way.
=20
No Backward Step: The Coqualeetza Story is the Society's first new =
temporary
exhibit describing the many changes surrounding the area we know as
Coqualeetza. Today the site is the hub of St=F5:lo learning recalling =
its
original roll in St=F5:lo culture. Coqualeetza impacted by years of =
Methodist
use and influence as an industrial and residential school, and First =
Nations
hospital has survived to become a St=F5:lo legacy of survival and
reconciliation. Step into this presentation and see the objects and =
images
of this past.=20
=20
After leaving these areas visit our timeline gallery and learn of the =
many
changes that have affected the area. Visitors are welcome to browse =
through
our presentation of A Community of Villages. Panels provide insight into
community development and unique facts about Chilliwack. Film lets the
visitor relax and enjoy short vignettes on local communities. Browse =
through
our artefact presentations, The Modern Woman of Yesteryear; Chilliwack: =
The
Great Outside; Schools; and Fossils. There's a play area for children =
set
within a school setting and so while the children play, adults can take
their time to explore, learn and impart their knowledge.
=20
Museum Director Ron Denman said "This is a new direction for the museum =
and
archives making use of new design and technology. We have assembled =
rarely
seen objects and pictures to present these stories. These stories of
Chilliwack will allow our visitors to learn this communities' history, =
its
values, and its place in British Columbia."=20
