A question for the masses:
What is your museum's policy on requiring or offering society
memberships to volunteers?
It's currently written in our volunteer policy that volunteers are
expected to become members of our historical society -- but that's
something that has not been enforced in the past.
Personally, I think that it's an excellent idea to recruit your
volunteers into your Society membership---they're keen on the museum's,
they are going to be significantly more engaged than the "send me a
newsletter" members, and they more likely to be ambassadors for the
organization wherever they go. Recruiting them is one thing, though,
requiring it is another.
What do others do?
