There is a civic museum on the Island, I think, that has determined that ev=
ery city taxpayer is a member. It is an interesting idea.

The number of a museum's members, however, is an indication and expression =
of public support. It would be a pity to see membership as just another sta=
tistic, that becomes unrealistically inflated at a whim, and therefore mean=
ingless.

Hmmmmm.. Besides giving volunteers a perk, free memberships would also be o=

A question for the masses:
What is your museum's policy on requiring or offering society memberships t=
o volunteers?
It's currently written in our volunteer policy that volunteers are expected=
 to become members of our historical society -- but that's something that h=
as not been enforced in the past.
Personally, I think that it's an excellent idea to recruit your volunteers =
into your Society membership-they're keen on the museum's, they are going t=
o be significantly more engaged than the "send me a newsletter" members, an=
d they more likely to be ambassadors for the organization wherever they go.=
 Recruiting them is one thing, though, requiring it is another.
What do others do?
