I agree with you Roger, that membership is a reflection of community =
support. That's why using volunteer members as a way to increase =
membership stats should be given some thought. Good point.

    A question for the masses:

    What is your museum's policy on requiring or offering society =
memberships to volunteers?

    It's currently written in our volunteer policy that volunteers are =
expected to become members of our historical society -- but that's =
something that has not been enforced in the past.

    Personally, I think that it's an excellent idea to recruit your =
volunteers into your Society membership-they're keen on the museum's, =
they are going to be significantly more engaged than the "send me a =
newsletter" members, and they more likely to be ambassadors for the =
organization wherever they go. Recruiting them is one thing, though, =
requiring it is another.
