Artist Spotlight: Mary Fox Pottery
Mary Fox has worked in her pottery studio in Ladysmith since 1994
, and from there her breathtaking chalices spill out into the
world. Originally from Fredericton, New Brunswick, Fox began
working with clay at age 13 later becoming a self-taught ceramic
artist with a global following. The chalice is her trademark
vessel and a lithium and copper compound, her substance of
choice.
"I began working with this compound in 1986 and continue to be
amazed at the variety of surface effects achievable from just
these two minerals. I first noticed the chalice form as a young
child in church... I found the objects within the church, and
its architecture, to be endlessly interesting and I spent hours
looking at everything. In all of my work with the chalice, I
strive for a feeling of upward or opening movement and a sense
of the interior space containing the energy of the vessel."-Mary

Fox's work was exhibited in Shepperton, UK, at one of the largest
international ceramics exhibitions! She also participated in the
53rd International Contemporary Ceramics exhibition at the
Museum of Ceramics in Faenza, Italy. Fox is now exhibiting at
the Van Dop Gallery.
The 7th Annual BC Cultural Crawl =E2=80=93
A Huge Success!
Reports are still spilling in after an immensely successful BC
Cultural Crawl. Over 70 communities participated in the province
-wide celebration, some taking their community exposure to brand
new heights.
One such community is Langley City who hosted a plethora of
exciting citywide events garnering a huge response from local
and national media.

& Auction takes place Sunday, September 21, 2008 in the outdoor
courtyard behind Granville Island's Public Market. All proceeds

programs at British Columbia's Children's Hospital.
