Lascaux Cave, one the most important historic sites in the world, is
generally closed to visitors. A museum at the foot of the pyramids
houses a 3000 year old ship. This museum is generally closed to
visitors.
Do any of our museums do anything that is of significant value to
society without a single visitor? Does your museum do anything that
is of significant value without a single visitor? If People were not
allowed to view the original Mona Lisa would this work of art then
become unworthy of state funding for its preservation? If the Museum
could both increase the number of visitors and decrease the cost and
quality of the collections and collections maintenance is this a
preferable option? Something to think about.
