Osoyoos Museum's funding was also denied. However, it was only our =
second application, and although we were hopeful, we had not become =
dependent on these grants.
We managed to squeeze another $10,000 out of our two local governments =
this year. So with those addtional funds and something from our =
endowment (depending on the performance of the markets), we might be =
somewhat better off than others. Hopefully we can squeak by with some =
of our public programming in place.
I am blown away by this government's blatant audacity to continue its =
downward spiral of funding to the cultural sector -- starting with the =
cancellation of the BC Festival of the Arts, the devolving ( savaging) =
of BC's Historic sites, the 40% cuts to BC Arts Council, and now this.=20
I believe we are not only paying for the Olympics, and yes, there is =
likely a loss of revenue, but wonder if the poor economy isn't greatly =
exaggerated, and is simply an excuse to justify slashing and burning =
whatever the province wants. Other sectors aren't faring so well =
either.=20
The feds will be picking up the costs of numerous lay - offs through EI =
- if anyone qualifies.

Albert Einstein -footnote to Judy Campbell's e mail.
Lascaux Cave, one the most important historic sites in the world, is =
generally closed to visitors. A museum at the foot of the pyramids =
houses a 3000 year old ship. This museum is generally closed to =
visitors.
Do any of our museums do anything that is of significant value to =
society without a single visitor? Does your museum do anything that is =
of significant value without a single visitor? If People were not =
allowed to view the original Mona Lisa would this work of art then =
become unworthy of state funding for its preservation? If the Museum =
could both increase the number of visitors and decrease the cost and =
quality of the collections and collections maintenance is this a =
preferable option? Something to think about.
cheers

Subject: [Bcma-l] Gaming Funding denied
We just received notice that we will not be receiving gaming =
funding. This represents 13% of our total budget and 40% of our =
programming budget. No appeals or reviews are allowed.
