Job description

This contract position is part-time, 21 hours per week for 13 weeks
beginning in September 2009. The Contract Archivist reports directly to the
Society's Archivist. The Contract Archivist will undertake the arrangement,
description and conservation of a large archival donation to the Society.
The collection includes textual records, photographs, maps and ephemera.

Responsibilities

1.	Arrangement and Description - Completion of arrangement and
description of the archival materials to the series and file level for
textual records, and to the item level for cartographic and visual records.

2.	Conservation - basic preventative care of all documents, re-housing
material in conservation materials, and development of reference aids.

Qualifications

*	Knowledge of the archival techniques, procedures, principles, and
practices relating to cataloguing and care of documents.
*	Familiarity with history of Nelson and Area would be an asset.
*	Project management and writing skills.
