Summer Employment Opportunity

 

Digitization Assistant

Vancouver Police Museum 

 

The Vancouver Police Museum is operated by the Vancouver Police Historical
Society, a non-profit society and registered charity.  The mandate of the
museum is to foster interest in the history of the Vancouver Police
Department and to deliver educational programs that focus on crime
prevention and the science of contemporary police work.

 

Working under the supervision of the Curator, the successful candidate will
be responsible for organizing the museum's current digital image collection
and helping create a plan for future digitization work, including creating
draft policy and procedure documents. This position may also assist with an
inventory of the museum's artifact collection.

 

Requirements:

 

* currently enrolled as a student in history, museum studies, archival
studies or other related field

* significant computer literacy, including Microsoft Access, Photoshop and
image management tools (like Picasa)

* familiar with basic principles of digital image manipulation

* able to pay attention to detail

* ability to work both independently and in a team

* between 16 and 30 years of age and registered in the Young Canada Works
candidate inventory

* willing to commit to working 40 hours per week from July 3 - August 29,
2009
