Dave Lang and David Newberry Keep Calm and Carry on Tour
Dave Lang and David Newberry bring the Keep Calm and Carry on Tour to the
Penticton Art Gallery on Sunday, November 22. Doors open at 7:30 pm, show
begins at 8 pm.
Smart words, smart chords, smart clothes Dave Lang has had a fondness for
smartness since someone told him he had a smart mouth. Inspired by Cole
Porter, Bob Wills, Randy Newman and Lenny Bruce, Lang writes smart songs
that make you smile. Even the love songs are biting and satirical, says
Geoff Berner.
Dave Lang is currently the musician in residence at the Lyric Theatre in
Swift Current, Saskatchewan. He tours regularly with like-minded performers
and is currently on a marathon three month tour of Canada. He has appeared
on record alongside musicians such as Neko Case, Corb Lund, Geoff Berner
and Carolyn Mark. He has written music for film and television and received
glowing reviews online and in print magazines such as The Georgia Straight
and Spin.
David Newberry sings folk songs with rock sensibilities. Or is it the other
way around? His simple songs capture insights into the complex contemporary
social world.
After years of recording and touring with a number of rock, folk and
alt-country bands in Ontario and British Columbia, David has released his
debut solo record, When We Learn The Things We Need To Learn.
David's music is delivered with passion and intensity such as I have
rarely experienced. Each song is like a masterpiece of concise writing, not
one wasted word or thought. Each drives home the fact that I am listening
to exquisite insights into the human condition. A brilliant blend of heart
and mind that is all but missing in most of his contemporaries writing
today. He is a brilliant poet and compelling performer. I will be in the
audience again as often as I can. I think he is an outstanding writer.
Simply outstanding. Three time Juno Award winner, David Francey
In his spare time, David co-writes and records educational songs for
Ontario public television.
He also produced and performed on a comedy record to be released soon, as a
part of the comedy duo, The Ben Mills Two. The album, Three Paycheque
Month, will be released online.
Tickets for the November 22nd David Newberry and Dave Lang concert are
available at the Penticton Art Gallery; $10 for Gallery members and
students, or $15 for non-members. This event will be held in the intimate
