Philosophers' Café: Has Technology Changed the Face of History?
Vancouver, BC - The Jewish Museum & Archives of British Columbia welcomes Peter Valbonesi for a discussion of "Has History Changed the Face of Technology?" on Wednesday, November 18th, 2009 from 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm in the Snider Adult Lounge; located in the Jewish Community Centre of Greater Vancouver (950 W. 41st Ave, Vancouver).
Facebook and Twitter move us away radically from the written word and researched and validated/verified facts. They are both "immediate" technologies that allow democratic discussion and collaboration but do they damage "history" - whatever that is? Join in the discussion on the intersection of technology and history.
About Peter Valbonesi:
Peter is currently the IT Manager for the Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows School District and an adult educator. With over 30 years of experience in this field he has seen vast changes in the realm of technology. He was previously the manager of the Centre for Educational Technology and IT Manager for the Faculty of Education at Simon Fraser University. His research on the impact of Technology on social culture is ongoing.
Everyone is welcome. Registration is not required. Admission is $5 per person at the door to the Snider Adult Lounge. For more information, contact the Jewish Museum & Archives of British Columbia at 604-257-5199 or visit www.jewishmuseum.ca.
This event is presented in collaboration with the SFU Philosophers' Café series.
The Jewish Historical Society of British Columbia, through its publications, education programs, and the operation of the Museum and Archives, is the preeminent and authoritative body for collection and sharing of community memory of Jewish life in British Columbia.
