Book Launch:

 Immigrants - Stories of Vancouver's People

On Thursday, December 10th, 2009, join author Lisa Smedman in
celebrating the launch of Immigrants - Stories of Vancouver's People
from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Il Museo, located in the Italian Cultural
Centre of Vancouver (3075 Slocan Street, Vancouver, BC).

   

Immigrants - Stories of Vancouver's People, published in 2009 by The
Vancouver Courier newspaper (a division of CanWest), explores the many
immigrant groups who came to Vancouver over the past century and a half.
Packed with photos, reminiscences and descriptions of actual journeys by
sailing ship, steam train, and overland trek, Immigrants covers both
Vancouver's prominent communities, including the Chinese, English,
Scottish and East Indian, as well as more than a dozen other immigrant
groups who left their stamp on a corner of the city, from the Italians
and Portuguese of Commercial Drive to the Greeks of West Broadway.

 

Written by award-winning journalist Lisa Smedman, Immigrants - Stories
of Vancouver's People is a companion piece to her previous book
Vancouver - Stories of a City. Based on articles that also appeared in
The Vancouver Courier, it expands upon these original stories, and is
nearly 300 glossy pages long. 

 

This event is presented by Il Museo at the Italian Cultural Centre of
Vancouver and the Jewish Museum & Archives of British Columbia.
