Artists, cultural workers and their supporters will be staging public
interventions all over downtown Vancouver on Wednesday, November 28th.
This action, a combination of a silent vigil and a strike, will serve to
draw public attention to the unfolding story of cuts to public support
of the arts in B.C.

Participants will be silent, dressed in grey, and standing in formation
in various locations starting at 9:00 am and ending at 3:00 pm. We are
showing the city what a future without the arts will look like: silent
and grey. We are standing in silent witness to the devastation of
artistic expression in the province of BC.

The $77 million dollars in casino revenues that the B.C. government is
withholding from charities, combined with the projected 85% to 92% cuts
to the legislative appropriation of the B.C. Arts Council are already
destroying public access to culture in many areas of the province. To
convince the government to change its course, and bring its policies
into harmony with the beliefs and aspirations of the people of this
province, we are asking members of the public to contact Premier Gordon
Campbell, Minister of Tourism, Culture and the Arts Kevin Krueger, and
their local MLA to demand that these funds be restored. To support these
efforts, we have launched greysquare.ca, a web site containing
information and suggestions for action.

An itinerary for Wednesday's intervention is available at
