For a great flat deck scanner that includes a superb back-lit slide scanner
function, I love using my Epson Perfection V-700. The slide scanner
function is especially useful because so many photos from the last half of
the last century were taken in 35 mm slide form. In addition to a rack
that positions 12 slides at a time for automatic scanning, special racks are
included to hold and position many other photo and negative formats,
allowing automated scanning of those formats as well. The software
included works very easily and saves a lot of time. The scanner produces
great results.
While not a cheap scanner, it is worth every penny as far as I am concerned.
Easy to work with, great resolution range, long bulb life and solid as a
rock.
