Hello Lisa -

I would recommend purchasing a scanner with the largest possible bed/surface area available.
We have an old HP Scanjet 7400c with a bed that is 9" x 14.25" approx. This is sufficiently large to accommodate bigger photos. We also have an HP Scanjet 8300, a much more recent scanner, same dimensions. The newer scanner has much better character recognition software if you need to scan text documents. The size of the scanning area on both these machines also makes it possible to do Photomerges in Photoshop fairly seamlessly.

Subject: [BCMA] Scanning and copying equipment

*The Ucluelet and Area Historical Society* are interested in what the BCMA membership recommend for scanning of photos and papers for archive and reproductive purposes.

We have a small dedicated group but not the appropriate hardware and software.

What are your recommendations for computers/laptops and the affiliated software?
What are your recommendations for the best scanners/printers.

Your input is greatly appreciated.
