At Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden


Through the Canadian Museums Association's Young Canada Works Program we are
seeking a dynamic individual to fill the position of Interpretation
Specialist.  

Ideal candidates will have demonstrated experience working with the public
in a tourism or education-related field, be comfortable working in front of
small and large groups, have proven ability to communicate with an audience
in a fun and engaging manner and the flexibility and initiative required to
jump in and assist the team where needed!

Reporting to the Education and Tours Manager, this is a full time position
starting May 17 to September 3, 2010 for 35 hours/week. Schedule includes
some evening and weekend work for special events, programs, training and
tours.  You must be a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident and returning
to full time studies in the Fall.  Additionally, you must be registered in
the YCW candidate inventory (https://www.youngcanadaworks.ca/index_e.cfm).

Duties:
*	Develop and deliver interpretive tours to an international audience
*	Develop and deliver interactive, value-added activities and
experiences for visitors in the Garden
*	Assist with training/supervision of summer volunteers
*	Set up, maintain, strike interpretive props
*	Create program outlines for future training materials
*	Assist with tour bookings
*	Assist with set-up/strike of special events as requested 
*	Perform general on-site maintenance and housekeeping duties 
*	Answer general enquiries regarding all aspects of the Garden's
activities and events
*	Maintain a professional and co-operative relationship with guests,
staff, and volunteers
*	Other duties as required

Qualifications:
*	Experience in the development and delivery of public programs 
*	Experience working with the public in a museum/cultural centre
environment
*	Must have excellent communication skills (fluent in English); a
second language is an asset
*	Team player with strong interpersonal skills; energetic, and
dependable.
*	Basic computer knowledge (Excel, Word, Outlook) 
*	Ability to represent the Garden with a high degree of
professionalism and enthusiasm
*	Must be presentable and well-groomed.
*	Interest and/or knowledge of Chinese culture and history.


Wage: $12.00/hr plus 4% vacation pay.  Deadline for application May 5, 2010
