U065 - Arts and Heritage Educator - Temp Full-time (from approx. Sep 13/10 to approx. Sep 30/11)

We are currently recruiting for an energetic, creative, multi-faceted and dedicated museum professional to assume the temporary full-time (from approx. September 13, 2010 to approx. September 30, 2011) position of Arts & Heritage Educator to join our team of professionals in the Recreation, Culture, and Parks Division.



An integral part of a professional team, the Educator oversees the successful delivery of a wide range of school and public programmes and special events focussed on subjects relating to history, art, science and heritage conservation.  Curriculum based school programmes reach over 12,000 students annually.  Supporting these and other museum services are 40 docents plus 60 other volunteers who are recruited, trained and supervised by the Educator.  This position supervises occasional contract staff and instructors.  Other duties include: collaborations with community arts and heritage organizations, routine marketing and related planning, creation of annual work programmes, and related budget development and expenditure control.



Applicants should possess a degree in Education, History, Geography, Anthropology, Fine Arts, Museum Studies, Arts Administration, Cultural Resource Management, Canadian Studies or a related discipline; have five years related experience including three years of museum based public and school programming and one year of supervisory experience; or possess an equivalent combination of training and experience.  Excellent computer skills with competency in database use, publishing in print and on line is essential. The selected candidate must demonstrate outstanding oral, written and interpersonal skills and an ability to work in a fast paced environment.  A valid Class 5 BC Driver’s licence is required.  Serve it Right certificate is an asset.



This CUPE position rate of pay is $28.18 - $33.20 per hour, plus 12% in lieu of benefits. The hours of work are non standard hours and/or non standard work weeks.



Recreation, Culture and Parks positions are defined by the Township of Langley as positions of trust (Child Safety) and require a criminal record check.
