PRESS RELEASE


After six and a half productive and important years, Gayle Cornish, Executive Director of the Osoyoos Museum Society and Curator of the Osoyoos Museum, has decided to take her well-deserved retirement effective October 31, 2010.

"When I reflect on the past six and a half engaging years at the museum, I cannot help but be reminded of what a privilege it has been to work with so many talented and committed people" Gayle stated in her letter of retirement to the Board.  

On behalf of the Board, President Dr. Robert Ritchie paid tribute to the important role which Gayle had played both as a member of the Board of Directors, and then as its first full time Curator over the past six and half years.  Much has been accomplished under Gayle's tireless leadership and efforts.  A tremendous backlog of artifacts has been processed and recorded.  Displays have been developed and refined.  Programs have been initiated and established.  Thousands of visitors have discovered, first-hand, why our museum has been described as the best small museum in BC.   

"Although there is a clear need for a new, more suitable facility in which to protect and display our impressive collection, we would not be where we are if not for Gayle's many contributions over the past decade", said Dr. Ritchie.  "She will be sorely missed, but her legacy will live on!"

The Board is currently in the process of recruiting a new Executive Director/ Curator prior to Gayle's departure.  Planning is also underway for an event on Saturday afternoon, October 23rd to celebrate Gayle's contribution and pending retirement.  Further information regarding the October 23rd event will be forthcoming shortly so that everyone wishing to take part in this important celebration can plan to attend.
