FRASER RIVER DISCOVERY CENTRE JOB POSTING
The Fraser River Discovery Centre (FRDC), in New Westminster, BC, is a
newly-expanded interpretive centre that connects visitors to the River's
history, environments, industry, people and communities. The FRDC, operating
as a non-profit society, is a hands-on interpretive centre with the mission
to be recognized as a Centre of Excellence for stimulating passion,
education, and enlightenment about the Fraser River, taking a key leadership
role in enhancing the health and sustainability of the Fraser River. FRDC is
looking for a part time Education Assistant.
Summary
Reporting to the Executive Director through the Education Coordinator the
Education Assistant assists with the delivery of quality educational
programming on the magnificent Fraser River.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
* The Program Assistant is responsible for assisting with the
development, implementation, and presentation of educational programs and
special events, for children and adults
* Assisting in research and development of existing education school
programs
* Assist in researching, planning, acquiring, and caring for objects,
slides, videos, replicas, and photographs to be used as a teaching
collection in school and public programs
* Assisting with education volunteer program including, developing a
volunteer marketing plan, liaising with internal and external volunteer
groups and assisting with training of volunteer team
* Administrative duties including maintaining program files and
correspondence, providing input into the museum budget, participating in
preparation of reports, and participating in annual planning
* Other related duties as required

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
* Degree or Diploma in education or extensive experience working with
children and adults in an educational or recreational context.
* Excellent oral and written communication skills;
* Proficient in all applications of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel,
Power Point) and Internet
* Excellent research and writing skills.
* Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team;
ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a
variety of internal and external contacts and to deal effectively with the
public.
* Excellent organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines;
ability to work on many projects at one time.
* Volunteer management experience an asset.
* Valid B.C. Driver's License desirable
HOURS: 12 hrs/week Friday and Saturday (with some flexibility)
RATE: $16.75/ hr plus 4% in lieu of vacation
