Souie Gorup was born in Halifax, NS of Mi'kmaq parentage. She began her
career by working and living with the Inuit of Northern Quebec carrying out
community based research by mapping and recording world views, Inuit
scientific knowledge, and life histories. She has been living in Coast
Salish territories for 13 years. Souie worked in the treaty process with the
Te'mexw Treaty Association for 8 years conducting community based research,
resource use mapping and oral histories. She has developed many friendships
with the elders whose understanding, stories and perceptions she helps

Islands National Park Reserve for almost three years as First Nations
