SQUAMISH SPIRIT AND CULTURE COME TO LIFE AT BRENNAN PARK

During the Olympics, the Squamish Spirit Centre (AKA the Brennan Park
Recreation Centre, 1009 Centennial Way) will host the Squamish
Historical Society, the Squamish Nation and the Squamish Writers Group
to give locals and visitors a taste of Squamish Culture from February
12^th until February 28^th 2010.

The Squamish Historical Society will be showcasing displays of
transportation milestones which opened up our community year by year and
kilometer by kilometer to the world. Photographic displays will include
the ocean journey by European pioneers to Squamish in the late 1800's
until the first highway was built; another will trace the opening of the
1958 Seaview highway until its present upgrade to the Sea-to-Sky Highway
Improvement Project. Newspaper articles and images will chronicle a time
in Squamish's history when a road was proposed in the 40's and 50's to
improve transport to Mount Garibaldi and its internationally acclaimed
outdoor recreation while in the 1960's a town up a rocky road north to a
town called Whistler held Olympic aspirations.

In the sporting down time, Squamish Historical Society original films
played on the big screen will be:

   1. Brackendale Then and Now
   2. First People of the Pacific Northwest
   3. Squamish Nation: Stories from the Heart
