Hi Tammy,
Your challenge stikes me as a inovative! A great way to make unuseable artifacts
into something of interest.
I look forward to the results.
Dare I say it - this challenge will involve some actual creative process. Unlike
the no chair for an uncomfortable chair con in Kelowna.
Cheers,
Kim Allen

Subject: [BCMA] Found Art Challenge!
Found Art Challenge at the Creston Museum
Friday and Saturday, July 9-10
What could YOU make out of these?
To me, this is a randomcollection of objects: a couple of blacksmith tools, the
head of a pickaxe, a green glass bottle, a plastic (and very dusty) gold pan,
and a kind of tacky fake-brass (read: plastic) wall sconce.
To some very talentedlocal artists, though, it’s a treasure trove of potential!
These are a few of the objects that the Creston Museum is clearing out of its
collection. Some of them are so badly rusted or in otherwise poor condition
that they can never be used for display. Some are duplicated several – even
dozens – of times in the Museum’s collections, so we’re keeping the best
examples and getting rid of the worst. Other objectsare things that have been
simply dumped at the Museum, so we know nothing about them.
Whatever their story (or lack thereof), these objects are being made available
to half-a-dozen local artists this weekend – July 9-10 – in our Found Art
Challenge. The artistsare being challenged to transform random groups of these
objects into works of art – in only twelve hours!
We invite you to come down and watch what is sure to be an
amazingtransformation. The Challenge is open to the public both days, from
10:00 to 5:00. On Saturday, beginning at 1:00, the completed works of art will
be set up in a one-of-a-kind art show, and you’re encouraged to vote for your
favourite to win the Viewers’ Choice award. That award, and others, will be
presented at 4:00, and then the artwork will be auctioned off – this is your one
chance to get a totally uniquework of art for yourself! Admission is $2 per
person.
See it for yourself! July 9-10, at the Creston Museum
